REVIEW: Astiging BOY IPIS # 1
Just finished reading BOY IPIS #1. Isa lang masasabi ko - ASTIG! Released through Bayan Knights publisher Sacred Mountain, the issue is beautifully drawn by Sarge himself, Mr. Gilbert Monsanto. And he ain’t kidding when he said that he enjoyed working on this book. It shows in the panels, the facial exressions and the attention to detail. It was also nice to see him draw Boy Ipis out of costume and deal with the other side of super-heroing.

The FILIPINO HEROES LEAGUE
The Filipino Heroes League by Paolo Fabregas is about the struggles of group of Filipino superheroes working with the Philippine government. Underfunded and undermanned, the heroes Invisiboy and Kidlat Kid together with veteran hero Flashlight lives in the old and almost abandoned building once occupied by the previous generation of FHL. They can’t even afford to fix their jeep, forcing them to ride a tricycle pedicab to get to the scene of battle. That is, if they are even called upon by the local cops. They are also kept in the dark, their heroism doesn’t even make it to the evening news.

Reviewing UNOS MUNDOS
Markus was right! You definitely have to add Wan Mananita’s UNOS MUNDOS into your KomiKon pull list — especially if you like shounen stories. Mananita introduces us to a world where super-powered teenagers exists. One (that is his name) is an unwitting participant in his brother’s mission to “make the world a better place.” And as such, is tasked to fight other super-powered individuals as an assassin for his brother’s ORPAN organizarion.
